2021 Highlights: Year of Growth and Lessons Learned

When I look back at my 2021 highlights, I feel so thankful and blessed. This was the first full year I was full-time with Audrey Ra Design. Just like previous years, I’ve learned so much business wise. But I’ve also grown tremendously as a person and in my emotional health. So this short list of four 2021 highlights is a mix of what I’ve learned personally and through my business.

1. New Studio

In early 2021, I had the urge to paint this wall in my studio. I knew that it was going to be in the background of all my Zoom calls. And I wanted to fill it with houseplants. After going back and forth about whether to paint it pink or green, I decided at the last minute to go with my signature color, mint green.

Since then, I’ve filled it with a couple more pieces of furniture, my logo as a neon sign, and dozens more plants.

2. Flowers Galore

Being able to visit the Chicago Botanic Garden and be unmasked outdoors was a healing balm for my creative soul. I visited no less than ten times this year and each time has been so special and full of flowers.

I also visited the Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan, and hope that I can go again!

In 2022, I’d love to visit a Lavender Farm and a Sunflower Farm! Have any suggestions for these locations around the Midwest?

3. The Garden

In March 2021, I launched a membership program called, The Garden. And although in 2022, it will be discontinued, it was certainly a highlight because it a) challenged me to paint more consistently; b) motivated me to film everything; c) confirmed my love for teaching and connecting with people

4. New Skillshare class

This class was certainly a labor of love and was born out of my own experience of practicing mindfulness to overcome my creative block. The class takes you through 10 days of mindfulness as you practice breathing exercises and simple watercolor projects to help you focus and let go of perfectionism.
